Carole Nelson

Nelson, 89, Chaska, formerly of Fridley, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at Chaska Heights Senior Living in Chaska.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Christ Victorious Lutheran Church, located at 9860 Shady Oak Dr. in Chaska with the Rev. Paul Biebighauser as officiant. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church.Carole Elaine (Marpe) Nelson was born June 4, 1928, in St. Paul, the daughter of August and Lillian (Hanner) Marpe. Carole was a graduate of Aitkin High School.On Aug. 28, 1948, Carole was united in marriage with Harry Nelson Jr. in Malmo. This union of 68 years was blessed with daughters, Linda, Julie and Susan. The family lived in Minneapolis and in 1953 had moved to Fridley. Carole was employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company where she was an operator and also performed both clerical and analytical duties. After retirement, Carole and Harry moved to Alamo, Texas where they had lived for 25 years prior to moving back to Minnesota in 2014.Carole was a past member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Moundsview where she was active in the ladies guild and management of the church library. Carole was very artistic and enjoyed painting, sketching, crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed traveling, golfing, gardening, reading and puzzles.Carole always had a sense of humor and had the ability to make everyone laugh. Her family will remember her for her excellent memory and her neverending love for everyone.Carole was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Nelson Jr.; parents, August and Lillian Marpe; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harry and Myrtle Nelson Sr.; stepmother-in-law, Florence Nelson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Harold Hollister, Jack and Jo Nelson, Richard Nelson, Leona Nelson and Sharon Nelson.Carole is survived by her loving family: daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Dennis Garner, Hugo; Julie and Terrance Johnson, Chaska; and Susan and Thomas Olson, Ocala, Fla.; grandchildren, Eric (Nikki) Garner, Deborah (Brandon) Montanye, Mark (Ch... Gerald Leroy Snyder

Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, in Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. He was born June 30, 1928, at Calumet City, Illinois, to Earl M. and Edith E. (Smith) Snyder. He first married Clara Lowe in 1948 at Waynetown.  She preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 2000. He later married Emily Jeane Shearer on Feb. 5, 2005, in Florida. She survives.Gerald was a retired farmer. He graduated from Waynetown High School; was a member of the Yountsville Non-Denominational Church; was a member of the Alamo Masonic Lodge, #144; and in his free time he enjoyed playing and was very good at shuffleboard.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Mark (Tammy) Snyder, New Market, Harold Snyder, Waynetown, and Rhoda (Gary) Grimes, Crawfordsville. Also surviving are step-children, Bruce (Gayle) Shearer and Susan (Mark) Henschen, both of Fort Wayne; sister Earleen (Michael) Flynn; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; sister Helen Ellis; and grandson Keith Snyder.Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doug Givan officiating.  Burial will follow in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the funeral home.
